Do you know that one of the most dangerous times in a man (or woman’s) life is when he has just achieved a worthwhile goal?
This statement is true for many people because once they’ve achieved that initial goal, they do not have bigger things to drive them.
]The thing is this: after achieving a goal, you should then immediately replace it with another worthwhile goal. Otherwise, you’ll start drifting with no direction and the attitude of “I did it. Now what?” starts to form and he becomes like a ship lost at sea.
Complacency leads you to mistakenly believe that you’re moving ahead already so there’s no need to pursue anything bigger.
But are you really moving ahead?
One of the fundamental laws of nature is that we were all born to move forward. The concept of advancing to the next level is a concept that has existed for ages and will continue to exist up to the end of creation.
Sadly, many people never become conscious of this fact, and simply choose to live mediocre lives. The fact is, in life you’re either moving forward or you’re not. So take some time to search yourself:
Are you moving forward in the key areas of your life?
For nearly 10 years, my life was stagnant. I was comfortable but headed nowhere.
This question helped me think, as I hope it will help you think as well.
And then it dawned on me that another 10 years could easily come and go without me making any significant gains.
I got scared. I nearly panicked when, as if a light bulb had been turned on in my head, I realized that I was really NOWHERE near the life I had planned to be living.
You may find yourself in the same place as I was. You may be doing okay with a comfortable job or business right now, but deep inside you feel empty.
You maybe even feel like you’ve been wasting time.
Those were the feelings I was dealing with. But by objectively considering the question of whether or not I was truly moving forward, my perspectives began to shift.
I began to see the many areas I was not moving forward in, but had led myself to believe I was doing ok in. I strongly believe that you too, by seriously considering the trajectory of your life, can begin to discover the things you need to do get raise the bar.
Here are a few points to consider as you ponder this question:
- Have you been taking steps towards your dreams over the years?
What of this year?
How closer are you to achieving the things you set to achieve?
- Have you been moving forward or falling behind in life? Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you’re standing still. THERE IS NO SUCH THING. It’s either that you’re moving forward, or you’re falling behind; NO MIDDLE GROUND.
Let’s look at it.
If you’re not moving ahead, others are. And naturally they’ll be passing you by.
The worst mistake you could ever make is to try to convince yourself that you’re advancing when in your heart of hearts, you know you’re haven’t been making much progress.
So, if you’ve come to the point where you realize that you’re not moving forward, that’s great; because now, something can be done about it.
The truth is, no matter how successful you may be right now, there’s still room for improvement. There’s room for greater impact, there’s room to reach your other dreams even faster. And the only reason why you haven’t done so yet is because you’ve been holding yourself back.
Yes, no matter what you’ve been led to believe, the only person with the answers to all the problems and challenges you’re facing, is YOU.
When your life is not going the way you would like it, it’s either that you’re not allowing yourself to blast on ahead, or you’re holding back from being what you’re truly capable of becoming.
You know EXACTLY those things you need to stop doing and encourage those things which will take you closer to you dreams.
When a person comes to me and complains that his/her life is not going in the direction they want it to go and that they don’t know why, my response is always the same: That’s 50% true and 50% a lie.
It’s true that your life may not be going the way you want it, but it’s a lie that you don’t why.
