17 Tips on How to Be A Better Person In Life

Many people are not sure about what personal development means for them. Others understand the concept but don’t know how to go about it. Both of these problems are easily addressed by gathering information about the subject. This article is full of great tips about personal development for all types of people.

“Can’t” should not be in your vocabulary. Take it out now. Anytime you think you “can’t” do something, try to come up with five reasons why you can’t, and then remember YES YOU CAN!! It might take longer in the beginning to get used to this idea, but in the end, you will wonder why you ever thought you couldn’t.

Personal development is a very important thing to strive towards. Try to come up with a goal. A good example would be to start saving money. This is important because you can learn to develop your impulse control. Start by saving when you would usually spend on things you do not need. For instance, every time you would buy something out of a vending machine, put that into a bank account. By developing good spending habits, you will develop great personal habits.

Personal development is often the province of aggressive planners. An overly-restrictive plan can be a hindrance to successful personal development, though. Plans need to remain flexible to cope with unexpected obstacles. When strategies prove unsuccessful, plans have to change to embrace alternative ideas. A flexible plan is always superior to a rigid one.

It can be tempting to vow that we will never do _____ (insert bad habit here!) again, but such a mentality can often set us up to fail. Rather than vowing never again to engage in your bad habit, vow not to engage in it for the next 24 hours.

In the digital age, you need not only keep your physical space free from clutter and mess, but you need to keep your digital one clean too. For many people, this means organizing your e-mail. If you are someone who gets thousands a day, keep them organized so that you can keep up with them. It’s impossible to handle that many in a single day, but by organizing them, you can get many more done.

Choose your beliefs from a position of knowledge. Many people have strong beliefs that, when examined, don’t hold up to scrutiny, making them look and feel foolish. Justify your beliefs with research and the pursuit of truth. This gives you the real power to defend your beliefs and verify the claims you make.

Remove artificially-sweetened products with aspartame from your diet. Aspartame, contained in Equal and NutraSweet, is responsible for blocking serotonin formation, causing insomnia, headaches, and blue moods in people who already have some serotonin depletion. For a natural sweetener that does not affect serotonin, blood sugar or calorie levels, try stevia.

Try to enjoy your meals by eating more slowly. Not only does this help aid with your digestion, but it can allow you some time to actually taste and enjoy your food. You don’t always need to hurry when you eat; try using that time to relax and refuel yourself with nourishment.

Allow yourself time to relax. Never let yourself get too stressed out. Always take the time to unwind. Take a long, hot bath. Lounge around and read a book. Take the time out of your day to watch a movie you enjoy. Relaxing reduces stress and can really improve your mood.

Decide exactly how you want to live, and then do it. If we do not decide how we want our lives to go, we will end up doing something, but probably not what we really want to be doing. Other things and outside people can interfere and make the decision for us. Be true to your inner self and constantly seek that which you want to do, then do it.

One great way to make sure you are at peace and live a full and healthy life is through daily devotion. Many many people would testify that when you start your day in God’s word and in prayer, you have a much better day than you would’ve had without having done that. Try it, and see just how important and beneficial it is.

Sometimes getting help is something beyond ourselves. In cases like this it would behoove you to visit a licensed healthcare professional, like a psychologist. Through years of expereince they have learned to help people just like yourself cope with difficult situations. Do not think you can solve it all on your own, see a psychologist.

Take time to do something for yourself, every day. Taking time, even as little as fifteen minutes, to do something you enjoy can do wonders for your mood, outlook and motivation. Use this time to relax and re-center yourself, and focus on you. After all, you are the most important person in your life.

Connect with your surroundings by celebrating each season. Be sure to take time to observe and appreciate the changing of the leaves in fall, the first snow in winter, the new blooms in spring and even the blazing sun in summer. By recognizing the natural passage of time, you will attain a greater sense of the process and purpose of your own life.

For successful personal development, stay relevant. Look for what is currently desired and offer it. Be in the know of the new information and technologies affecting your business or life. Innovate based off of this intelligence. If you aren’t relevant then you will find your personal development to be twice as hard. Think of your goal to stay relevant as the oil that paves the way to a quicker and easier journey.

Aim to grow daily with these tips

In the personal development, you need to acknowledge weaknesses and unfulfilled potential, but it is crucial to stay positive and to not be too hard on yourself. Otherwise your self-esteem and confidence can take a real beating. Follow these tips to learn how to gently and gradually become a better person.

Keep a journal with you so whenever ideas hit, you can record them. You could for instance carry a small notebook with you, or use an app on your phone. Make detailed notes, and later, when you have the chance and are feeling creative, take your ideas further.

Releasing your inner power is as simple as believing in yourself. One of the first things you should do is list your strengths and weaknesses. This list alone will help you realize just how truly powerful you are and just how much you can do. And with the list of weaknesses handy you can work on each one to slowly gain a feeling of empowerment over them.

Try your best to keep a positive attitude everyday. No matter how bleak things can sometime look or be, keeping positive can help you get through the bad times. You can also get so much more done when you have a positive outlook on the task or the outcome of the tasks.

Make sure you protect yourself. Having an excellent set of healthy defense mechanisms against the world’s troubles means you’ll be more likely to stick by your convictions and make good on your promises. Your worst enemy can be yourself, so turn your own worst enemy into your own best ally.

Find a champion to help you stay engaged and to encourage you when you struggle. Your champion could be someone close to you in your personal life, a professional development coach or a trusted mentor at work. The idea of this tip is to make sure you have a strong support mechanism in place to help you stay focused and engaged in your personal development goals.

Give certain parts of yourself back to the people who need you most – your family and friends. Identify those specific behaviors, habits, and thoughts that take your best qualities and devotion away from those who love you most, then make a conscious effort to eliminate those negative aspects of your character.

Always carry a book or something productive to do with your hands. Whether we spend it waiting in the doctor’s office or on public transit, idle time is wasted time. Take along a book or perhaps some handwork to more productively occupy the time that would be wasted. You’ll be amazed at how much more you can accomplish in a day.

One of the best ways to improve yourself is to discover the underlying reasons for disliking certain people. Often, people find that if they make a list of the specific people who irritate them, they cannot actually come up with a reasonable cause for their feelings. Putting these reasons on paper forces you to step back and view them objectively.

Don’t procrastinate! Even when a task that is awaiting your attention is one of the most distasteful imaginable, in most instances you’ll suffer more by putting it off than in just going ahead and doing it. File that request for extension with the IRS and you’ll be worrying about doing your taxes for six months more than if you just did them on time in the first place!

Self help books are useful at giving advice but sometimes lack when it comes to actual life-changing qualities. It’s important to take action on the advice given in the literature the words in the book are just words until you put them into a real life situation. The best teacher for dealing with a situation is real life experience; there is no substitute for reality.

For someone who is experiencing problems controlling his or her anger, sometimes the most effective solution is also the simplest. Stop, breathe deeply, and count from one to ten. Most of the time, ten seconds is all the time that is needed to avoid a knee-jerk response that could easily have made the situation twice as volatile. It’s old-school advice, but it really works.

Empower yourself to better handle conflicts by identifying phrases, people, and ideas that trigger a negative emotional response in your head. By familiarizing yourself with these instigators, you can train yourself to avoid simply shutting down and becoming overly defensive. Preventing these behaviors makes you more prepared to constructively work with the other side to reach a compromise.

For greater self-awareness and a boost of spirits, enjoy or create art. It is so easy to get wrapped up in ourselves and limit our view of the world. When you look at truly stunning and magnificent art, it opens your awareness and helps you envision possibilities. When you create art, it awakens playful and childlike aspects of your mind.

Improving your social skills will help you improve your personal development. When you have strong relationships that are solid and dependable, you will be able to have access to more support. Your friends will be there to help your discover more about your self from a perspective that you just don’t have.

In order to make yourself a more positive person, you need to get rid of all the negativity around you. You are never going to feel good about yourself if all that is around you is negative. Try not to associate with negative people, and keep away from negative television shows, movies, and books.

A great tip that can help you with your personal development goals, is to search the internet for information. The internet is ripe with information regarding everything you can think of. There are countless web sites and forums that offer help and insight, to those who look for it.

As you can see from the list of tips, you can really make a difference in how you feel about your life. It takes a lot of work, a lot of planning, and tons of patience, but it is all worth it in the end to become a better person. You will get more out of life.

      Hi Dan,
I see your points as very well researched for and indeed justifiable.
I like especially the point on embracing change and that on procrastination. These are the things that have made me lag behind so much in the past. I won’t go back there again in 2016 and beyond! I indeed want to be a better me.

      • Dan Maxwell Jr

        Thanks Boniface.
Change is one of the only things we can be sure of in life, yet one of the hardest for us to embrace. the moment we learn to embrace change our lives change.

        Cheers buddy

Wow, these really are some great tips! I love that you included diet and exercise in becoming a better person. To be a better person we want to feel good about ourselves and without the proper diet and a consistent exercise routine we feel groggy, tired, and ornery. It’s harder to get through the day when you don’t feel good and it’s hard to see reason. I think this is an excellent blog and would suggest adding a couple picture just to give it a better visual 🙂

      Hey Dan,
Already love the content of the first paragraph when you know how to deal with yourself and others. Having a goal is a wonderful way to be a better person. Your content on having flexibility is right on. Always pursue Truth because it is already written. Amen to organizing e-Mails. Eating slowly is something I need to make a habit and relaxing. I never take a long hot bath. It’s been a very long time. Do you write some yourself reminders to do these things? How are you consistent? Be true to your inner self is a battle for me. Any advice. When I am around people, I feel like I am not being the real person that I am. I am not quite doing daily devotion but I am doing it with my mother some days of the week. It makes us both peaceful. Absolutely happy you added getting professional help. I do and it makes a huge difference. We have a small pond between the houses in our neighborhood and what a difference it makes when we see the turtles and the crane looking for fish to eat. We also have a willow tree, which reminds me to bend with the wind. I am still practicing that one. You are so right on about connecting with our surroundings. I think of the things I have missed. Lovely content. I refuse to follow the herd but as a woman in a subdivision, I see so many women wanting to fit in. I am 52 and working to catch up on technology. That is why I started WA. Do you have any other suggestions? I seem to keep telling myself this is going to be hard and I have to erase that out of my mind. Any other suggestion for me to stay relevant?
I enjoyed your blog so much. From remembering to breath and drink more water to keeping a positive attitude to trying to play an instrument. I love self-improvement.
Wonderful blog. Rich in sound advice. Thank you.

        Hello Angie,

I’m glad you’ve found these tips useful. So let me see if I can address your questions:
Yes I always have to keep reminding myself on many of these tips. You know something funny?
Many clients whom I work with make the mistake of thinking that as coaches we have everything figured out. Far from it.

We many do deeper research and experiments, but in the end we’re all humans with many of the same challenges.

I’m glad that you’ve come to see the value in getting professional help. It really goes a long way. Oh, and connecting with the surroundings, it always is a great soother.

Although I’m not 52 (not even near it), I get the challenges of catching up with technology. My dad is 63 and he’s in the same boat. But it comes with practice. Just keep following the training over at WA.

Overall, just be yourself and seeking to be a little bit better everyday.
If you need, specific help or guidance, please reach out to me. I’m here to help

I think it’s great that you are offering a site with info on how to be a better person. I try to think of others as myself, in other words, I try to see myself in other people before I pass judgment. There is a saying I love, “Recognize the other as you” this helps me stay grounded and not get too judgmental. It is easy to be who we are but it’s harder to ask the important question “how can i be a better person” I especially like the “eat slower” aspect .. I have been trying to eat slower for some time now, and I am much healthier because of it!
thanks for such a nice post!

      • Dan Maxwell Jr

        Glad I could help Meherbani.

We can all be better. All it takes is the desire and commitment.

        Cheers

I truly agree with you man! There are a lot of people, who try to get wealthy with methods, which are totally inappropriate and disrispect others. If you live your life according to your tips, I’m sure, eventually you will get, where you want to get – maybe you get, where you belong (karma 😀 ).
Anyways, thank you for your nice thoughts, keep up the good work!

      Adam

      • Dan Maxwell Jr

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Adam. Highly appreciate it.
        Cheers

    • Victoria

My Gran used to say “Cant means won’t and won’t never will” every time we used to say can’t. you “you need to get rid of all the negativity around you.” This is life changing a point people need to take notice of. Recognising your egos little voice in your head is another life changer. Thoroughly enjoyed this
      Thanks

      • Dan Maxwell Jr

Thank you for stopping by Victoria. I so agree with you Gran. Many of the things we say can’t to
are things we either haven’t tried, or ones we’ve decided not to do.

You know even after writing this piece, I still struggle with getting rid of all the negativity. As I mature, I
find that “directional acceptance” is the way. This is where we accept where our life is – including who or what it
has come with, and yet maintain a clear focus on where we want it do go.

Your site is dramatic and inspiring.

Like the design, like the visuals.

You have “17 Tips on how to be a better person in life.” I’d have liked it if these tips were bulleted: either with a bullet or even better, numbered. So I’d know where I was among the 17.

I loved the side bar to the right. Visual and very enticing. And great content!

In “Live Your Dreams” you tackle some very important issues, and respond to big attractive movements (like Law of Attraction). Great strategy! And good content. The Headlines seemed very large, but then it made them easy to read too!

Great tag line: “Impossible Is Nothing.”

Nice offer on your header: “Join My Inner Circle”

      Looks like you’re doing great!

      • Dan Maxwell Jr

Hey Roger, thank you so much fo the tips on Improving the “17 Tips” article. I agree with you fully and will make the edits. Thanks for all other feedback. It’s nice to know that the site is connecting with audience.

        Cheers,
