How I Made an Unexpected $75,000 from Blogging

The Year was 2010.

I had just resigned my job working at Banking Operations Officer/ IT Business Analyst at the Liberia division of a 1.5 Billion dollar company.

I wasn’t quite sure at the time where my career was headed. But the one thing I knew what that I was my freedom, and to be in control of my own destiny.

I decided to take a a week off and just goof around. This goofing around led me to rediscovering the art of freelance writing. I had done a bit of that in 2007 and 2008.  So with free time on my hands, I decided to dust of my skills and see what was out there.

After a little bit of research, I quickly realized that the best approach to launching myself in the freelance writing space was to start blogging about it. And thus I began blogging about freelance writing with a focus on highly skilled professional who wanted to write their own books but didn’t have the time.

Now, usually a person has to blog for about a month or two before they start to see some traction. So you can imaging how pleasantly surprised I was when two weeks after my blog went online, I received a call from someone here in Liberia.

He was an expatriate medical doctor on a short term assignment. He had read my blog posts about how to write a book and wanted me to ghost write his book as he had been wanting to do so but could not find the time.

We discussed the nature of what he wanted, and before long, our discussion for one book turned into a ghostwriting project for  a series of 3 separate books.

The fee was $75,000.

He paid me $40,000 upfront, and the $35,000 came 3 months later at the completion of the project.

All of this happened because of blogging.

At the completion of that project, I was ready to start my marketing consulting firm which I grew to 6 figures withing 7 months.

Guess what was one of the services we offered?

That’s right: Ghostwriting.

I recently started blogging again in February. This time, I’m blogging about what I believe God placed me on earth for: to help people unleash their greatness and achieve extraordinary results in their lives, careers or businesses.  Since launching this blog, I’ve gotten 3 clients directly as a result of my blog posts.

My goal is to take this blog to a $10,000 per month business withing the next 6 months using the lessons I’m learning for Yaro Starak’s free guide: Blog Profits Blueprints.

There are two types of blogging:  Expert/Authority Blogging  and Affiliate Blogging

The Expert Model, sometimes called “Authority Blogging” simply means you use your blog as a platform to demonstrate your expertise or passion for a subject. This was what I did with my blog on Freelance Writing, and What I’m doing now with this blog on Human Potential ad Achieving Extraordinary Results.

With the expert model, You don’t have write new content all the time, although there’s nothing wrong with it.  What you do need is HIGH QUALITY content that really helps people. but you can publish just once a week and earn a full time income or more.

Expert blogging is the most lucrative form of blogging. There are people who consistent rake in a minimum of $50,000 every single month as expert bloggers.

To qualify as an expert blogger, you must be an expert at something – anything. You can blog about accounting, sex, music, cooking, shampoo, dogs, childcare or anything else. It really doesn’t matter much… What matters is that you feel confident calling yourself an expert.

As I mentioned, the earning potential is quite high if you do it right.  The best resource that I’ve found on all the internet that gives you the fundamentals of expert blogging is Yaro Starak’s Blog Profit Blueprint; and You can download it here for FREE.

No matter what your interests are, or where in the world you live, you can start a blog, make and impact and start making a decent income all at the same time.

There are literally five major steps to becoming an expert blogger:

  1. Go to Bluehost and click the “Get Started Now” button get get your blog hosted for $3.95 per month.
  2. Click on the package you are interested in.
  3. Sign up for a new domain name on the left side of the screen. If you already have a domain name that was  in use at another host, you can follow the steps on the right to transfer your domain to bluehost.
  4. Next you will be asked to enter a password. Make sure it’s secure as this information is very important.
  5. Download Yaro Starak’s Blog Profits Blueprints

Here’s a detailed article I wrote that teaches you how to start your own expert blogging website in under 20 minutes.  I hope you find it helpful.

The second form of blogging is affiliate blogging which builds on perhaps most well-known online money making strategy called affiliate marketing.

This is the easiest way to start making money online but also the slowest way, and in my opinion, the most labor intensive as you have to be writing new articles almost everyday.  It does not require you to have any product of your own. All you need to have is the right Education, Website & Tools, and a support system that will ensure that you’re successful. And that’s why I’m proud to recommend Wealthy Affiliate University as the place to learn how to build a successful  Affiliate Marketing business online. It is however not as lucrative as Expert blogging. But if you’re just starting out and not quite comfortable  as an expert, this may be the best option for you.

Unlike Blog Profits Blueprints which is an eBook that you can download, Wealthy Affiliate  is an online education and business hosting platform, and its free to get started.
